MGDK was proud to design the new global headquarters for Outright International, a global LGBTQ+ nonprofit based in Midtown Manhattan. Outright amplifies the voices of global activists with advocacy work and funding, and is the only LGBTQ+ organization with consultancy status to the UN.
The client had outgrown their prior headquarters, and the space did not match their current scale and impact. Primarily comprised of donated FF&E, it needed to be professionalized, provide more agency to the client, and reflect their core values and global reach. It also needed the flexibility of a 9-to-5 office space that receives occasional visits from high-profile executives, ambassadors, and heads of state.
Combining a visual arts lens with our experience designing commercial interiors, we moved forward with a highly customized design that utilizes color and upcycled FF&E. We also worked with a designer to create woven raffia chairs to add levity and brightness to the space. With a design that draws inspiration from queer artists from around the world, the space celebrates the global LGBTQ+ community and fosters an environment where Outright’s critical advocacy work can take place.
